Charity Ewusie

Charity is an active member in her community, tirelessly working to uplift those around her in need. When I met Charity 7 years ago, she was sewing clothes by herself for volunteers who arrived with Projects Abroad to earn some money for her family. She now owns her own shop and has trained 11 women to sew for free. These women, many of whom are single mothers, are all without a partner and did not have any skills or resources to earn income for themselves. With Charity's generous support, they are now able to sew to earn income. She started a women’s empowerment and sustainable development program through her organization, Fashion on

Wheels, a sewing and vocational training school. She provides free skills training for single women, equipping them with employable skills to achieve economic independence and long-term self-reliance. By purchasing any of the fabric clothings and accessories, you are supporting the women of Fashion on Wheels, and they generously donate a percentage of their earnings to the Ankaful Community. Custom designed clothes and accessories with specific colors and fabrics are available. These women are extremely talented and can help make any vision come to life.

Nurse Emelia

Emelia was one of the greatest surprises and blessings of this most recent to Ghana. She is a public health nurse who has been working well beyond her salaried hours to uplift the members of the Ankaful Leprosy Community. She has made them feel seen as human, breaking down the stigma of their disease, and empowering them to become self reliant. I'm still taken back by the incredible work Emelia is doing at the Ankaful Community. With no complaints, she'd come to work long hours with us in her one pair of scrubs On our departure day, she surprised me with a beautiful beaded purse she made and keychains to give as a thank you to donors supporting this mission. Due to her limited income as a nurse, she makes beaded jewelry and handbags to help support her family, raising her two young boys. I consider Emelia a sister now, and want to help support her in any way I can. Selling her handmade beaded accessories is one way for me to show my gratitude for the selfless work she is doing. Custom purse and accessory bead colors are available.

Brother James

James is an artist, husband, father, and member of the Ankaful community. Prior to COVID, James would sell his artwork near the castle where tourists would often go to help generate money for his family and his community. After COVID, his shop had to be shut down, and now he only sells artwork out of his house located in the rural Ankaful village. Due to the poverty in Ghana, very few people can afford the luxury of artwork. James typically relies on the sales of his artwork to volunteers who are working at the Ankaful Leprosy Community. Since the discontinuation of organizations like projects abroad, James has had a significant decrease in the sales of his artwork. Suffering from a buruli ulcer, requiring daily wound care, James is limited to the work he can do to provide for his family. During this past trip to Ghana, I was able to purchase multiple pieces of artwork due to the support of friends and family. Despite having his own challenges, James graciously donated a percentage of his earnings to the greater community of the Ankaful Village. Nick and I were deeply taken back by this generosity. James can also create portraits of a person or a picture, and can make any artwork from scratch if given a theme and colors.

Each item purchased will be hand made for order. Due to the ever changing access to supplies, some fabric and colors may not be exactly available.
